Friendship is something that is taken for granted. How many childhood friends, did we have and how many of them have surprassed the test of time? How many of them are still are in our inner circles today? I remember two of my childhood friends: Ozzie and Felix. One of the characteristics of friendship, is the sharing. Sharing everything. Ozzie was my buddy from when I was seven till I became a preteen. Then for some reason we grew apart. When we were close, we did tons of sleep overs and were into everything from comic books to G.I. Joes. As we got older, lives paths took us in different directions.
Felix, on the other hand, lived in the same area in NY I lived and even went to my same church, but we were oblivious to each other. Until, by some weird coincidence, we met in a bakery, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, on one of our vacations. We connected ever since and have been B.F.F's (Best friends for ever--ha ha) ever since. We have been each others best mans, in our weddings and our friendship has never died out, even pouring into our kids.
Friendships are hard to establish as we grow older. Childhood friends are once in a lifetime. As adults, I have recently reconnected with my friend Ozzie, he lives in Virginia and has been in the military for 15 years. Though I have many friends today, adult responsabilities and commitments get in the way.
John 15 says: 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." Jesus has showed us the value of friendship, his friends, were his disciples. Today he invites us to feel like a friend, as friends share everything. In the midst of our crazy agendas and busy schedules, how about we call an old friend and reconnect.
Who were your childhood friends and what happened? Let your voice be heard.
